His cheerfulness fades the more he talks about Adam, an expression on his face she's seen less and less now that he's with Neil--but that still happens, because how could it not? He's still left someone behind, just as Nick's gone and left her, and no matter how happy they might be in the moment neither of those things stop being true.

"I won't say he didn't have a point," she says, her smile a little softer as she leans to the side, nudging his shoulder gently. "But that's not really what matters, I guess."
